2012 Birthday List!

Folks! My birthday is in 11 days! April 26th to be exact and I will FINALLY  be turning 21. My family always makes fun of me for it but I like to make a birthday list every year (because I'm kind of a control freak). Here are a few things I've been dreaming about:

il_570xN.317903099
A pretty bathing suit. This top is amazing, I would also like some black high waisted bottoms! (or a black bathing suit I can make into bottoms? I'm on the hunt)

A new bike! I had one but it got stolen.... and since they've been doing a bunch of construction around my house, there will be more sidewalks for my riding pleasure! I'm not looking for an expensive one (in case it gets stolen again) but I would like an old-fashioned looking one. Like this brown one above.

or this blue bike

or this red bike

I've been wanting one of these since we moved into our apartment! It would be very space saving and a lot more safe for Eliza- Ikea Magnetic Knife Rack

Hair extensions please?! Because I want long hair, now! (in dark auburn...)

This book! I think it would be very useful to me (:

I'm also in the market for some cool new jewelry...

I've been craving one of these

this one's more of my birthstone though, I'm thinkin' some boho rings would be cool too?

One thing I would really like is to go shopping! Like at a regular store! I love thrifting but sometimes it's nice to get new stuff too, ya know? Anyways, I've had my eye on this dress for a while.

Ok..... I WANT SOME RAIN BOOTS GOSH DARNIT! This is like the joke of my family. I make a birthday list every year and every year I ask for rain boots! Seriously, for at least the past four years I've put  rain boots on my list and my birthday always goes rain boot-less. I guess everyone finally realized this and have been making fun of me for it since Christmas ;) If I don't get some this year, I may just go out and buy myself 5 pairs! But in case anyone's interested, here are some that I think are supaa cute.
10842370 13492845
plaid boots, cheetah print boots
11166104 12717742
yellow boots (on sale!), mukluk boots
11831590 11908617
whale boots (!), yellow polka dot boots

One more thing I'm pining for is... some socks to wear with heels

these two are from target- nude, pink ($5!!)

some over the knee socks would be cool too, brown socks

I was planning on a trip to New Orleans for my birthday but I'm not sure that's happening. I would like to travel some where though.... I think a road trip is in order *ahem Brandon*

OH! And one more big thing! Eliza's Mother's Day Out was a gift from my mother last year, so I'm asking for one more year of Mother's Day Out! Hopefully in the next year I will get my degree and it would be EXTREMELY helpful for those extra couple hours on Tuesday and Thursdays to do my schooling.
*ahem mom and dad* (:

Welp, that's all I can think of for now. I'm off to do my taxes now... I'm such a procrastinator...

Smoothie for the ill

While I've been sick, it's hard to eat anything solid. So I've mainly been relying on smoothies and soups! Of course, smoothies already make a regular appearance in my house but this was just an extra excuse to have one... or two everyday! Here's one loaded with yummy fruits and antioxidants:

First, a handful of frozen blueberries.
IMG_1258
Next, a few spears of pineapple (I found out after this that it's easier to blend if you break these in half)
IMG_1260
Next a few strawberries (optional, I haven't been doing this to my last few and still tastes great!)
IMG_1263
And then some acai berries! I buy these at HEB in the frozen section. You have to run it under some hot water to thaw it a bit...
IMG_1266
Then brake it up while still in the bag and squeeze them in.
IMG_1269
Then add some of your favorite juice (lately ours has been acai pomegranate because... hello antioxidants?!)
IMG_1276
Blend and serve!
IMG_1283
(don't laugh at my kiddie cup! this is real life here people.... all the big girl cups were in the dishwasher ok?)

I do love me some smoothies. Also, do you like my blender? It's like the cheaper version of the magic bullet!!! I found it at Target for only $27. It's pretty much amazing. Since it's just the three of us, it's pretty useless to have a full sized blender so we donated our old one to save space! Nice!

It's the weekend! And I've got some big projects in the making that are making me super happy/motivated/excited. I can't wait to share!

Have a good weekend you guys!

Girlish Garb: Remixxxx

Hello all! I came across this Ted Talks today on Little Tree Vintage and was really impressed. It's basically about feminism spoken from a teenager and wowzas! Definitely worth a watch.

Annnnd now here's an outfit I wore to work last week. I was going for comfy but not frumpy. (The headband I actually added on just for the shoot... because it was just hanging on a rack screaming my name!)
IMG_0811 IMG_0810
I'm also experimenting with lip stick! I have NEVER been into lipstick and just think it looks weird on me.... but I am determined to find some that I like and feel confident in pulling it off. Ooooh ya!

Outfit Details:
Striped Dress- Thrifted & DIY (also seen here
Floral Camisole- Urban Outfitters (here as well)
Floral headband- DIY

Thank you for all your kind words! I'm feeling MUCH better today. I made myself a smoothie yesterday with lots of blueberries and acai berries and I think that did the trick. Plus I laid on my couch... pretty much all day. It was nice to relax but I'm glad I'm feeling better. Sick= no fun.

Also, I know I haven't done many DIY's lately but I've got some good one's coming up! I've just been super busy and since DIY's take the longest to put together, I've been putting them all off. Not to worry though, there are some good one's in the making!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Thursday, the weekend is almost here!

Sick As A Dog

You might have already heard but I am sick, sick, sick! It kind of came out of no where but last night I came down with a sore throat and now all I want to do is lay down.... and do absolutely nothing. I'm not going to go into details but I'm not feeling great... at all. However, I'm kind of enjoying the down time.... Might as well, right? Anyways, Here are some pretty, random pictures I took a couple weeks ago.

All I can say is.... I was feeling kind of artsy? I don't know, no excuse really. Just felt like taking pictures darn it! They span about 12 hours, starting at night.

IMG_0705 IMG_0711 IMG_0654 IMG_0697 IMG_0717
This was my valentine's present to Brandon. Note: I do not draw very often. I just wanted to give him something personal and handmade.
IMG_0715
This particular morning, I woke Eliza up early so we could watch the sunrise! It took her a bit to wake up but she got really excited about it and talked about it for daaaaays.
IMG_0757 IMG_0721
aren't they cute (:
IMG_0729 IMG_0730 IMG_0734 IMG_0739 copy copy IMG_0754 IMG_0751
It was so peaceful, I actually really enjoyed it. It was still a bit foggy from the night before and the dew was clinging to the leaves on all my plants. Eliza was still tired enough to not be crazy so we wrapped ourselves up in blankets and cuddled together on our bench just watching. Watching the world wake up.

Food: Taco Chicken

This was another meal from our 2 week challenge. Another super easy recipe.

IMG_0652
So, I took about a 1lb of chicken and cut it into slices.
IMG_0643
Then, I rubbed taco seasoning all over! I think I only used half the package.
IMG_0645
Then I cooked it for about 10 minutes or so until the internal temp reached 165. IMG_0648
Then we served it up, fajita style! We got these delicious southwest tortillas from the bakery at HEB. And then added some cheese, sour cream, salsa, and a bit of corn.
IMG_0651

MmmmmMMmmmm. This is making me hungry just looking at it!

So, you have probably noticed that I've changed the layout.... once again. I don't know what it is. I like change? I can't help but switch it up every now and then. I wanted to simplify it a bit more but wanted to keep the print that was in the background (which is now in the header). Also, I moved everything to one side so that I can have bigger pictures and focus more on the content that what is in my sidebars. Ya? What do you think?

I keep switching up the header but I think I like it as it is.... we'll see.

IMG_5162 copy

P.S. I haven't responded to comments in like 2 weeks because I've been SUPER busy. But I plan on doing that asap! It's happening though!

Mingle Monday: Half Price Full Sound

Welll I convinced Brandon to write up a little post for Mingle Monday! I told him to make it relevant and was quite impressed with what he came up with. Sooo, here it is. Enjoy!

Flipping through decades of hippies and hair makes diving for vinyl a rich and entertaining task. A task that goes hand in hand with the hours Sam racks up in thrift stores around the greater Houston area. She searches tirelessly through piles and piles of styles. Some bold, some hilarious, until she finds a piece that speaks to her. A piece that is familiar.

Unfortunately on my last dive, I was accompanied by my two year old and her attention span. So I was not able to indulge in mustached mariachi bands or the top 25 polka hits of Soviet Russia. I had to go straight for the goods.

I jumped to the Z's, checkin' on my man Zappa (Frank). And there, in all it's misplaced glory, was the warm serene face of the swedish Tom Waits look alike resting on a pair of seemingly comfortable bosoms. It was Tom Waits' ninth album, Rain Dogs in mint condition.

Tom Waits is a mythical creature who's raw and revealing poetry is delivered through the voice of an angel who's vocal chords have been set ablaze. Rain Dogs is a chaotic and honest (the only thing Tom Waist knows how to do) depiction of the entertainingly tragic streets of Manhattan.

Despite it's place in the history of blues music, perhaps the best part about this iconic record is that it was.... $4.95!!! In the words of Sam Wish, "I just couldn't pass it up." I rushed home, baby bouncing under arm, to put that needle to the groove. Every crack and pop of the 33 made the words and sounds of Rain Dogs all the more real as only vinyl can do.

So go diving!! Go hunt for a connection with the past, then dust it off, spin it round, and give it new life. That's why I dive for vinyl.
