Hanging Hearts Tutorial

blogged
This is probably one of the easiest tutorials I will do/have ever done. It does involve a sewing machine though..

blogged
Yes, again with the maps. First, I cut out a bunch of hearts...

And then stitched them together. The trick here is to make sure you pull out enough string at the top (in the beginning) to tie them to whatever you'd like. And then stitch the first one, pull some slack (however much space you want in between the two) and sew the second. Continue until you're all done. I made three strings of these at all different lengths for some variety.

And then hang your hearts up! So that was pretty easy, wasn't it?

I don't even know what this metal thing is but I love it! After Ike(?) hit Galveston, we went down there to check it out. We walked along the ocean and I guess there was a gift shop that had blown down because the beaches and jetties were littered with all kinds of rusted and sandy treasures. This was one of the things I found and I'm sure my dad didn't appreciate it but I brought back quite a few lovely items.

Below are a few funny pictures that I came across and had to share. This was when we shampooed our carpets (because Eliza destroyed them) and we had to cram all of our furniture in our kitchen and bedroom. Yes, that's a couch in my kitchen. And that's me attempting to cook dinner... hahaha.

Eliza sure enjoyed climbing on/around everything like the little monkey she is.

Btw, ignore the dishes in our sink.... we did have a couch in our kitchen... that's a pretty legit excuse right??

Stamps & Goodie Bags

Why, hellooo there! My name's Sam, nice to meet you!
Snapshot_20111122_1
Haha, real funny, right?? Welll, I have to apologize about my lack of blogging lately. Life has been.... busy? And hectic and absolutely crazy... to say the least! But I'm alive and well!

Snapshot_20111122_2
To tell you the truth, I may have been avoiding blogging. But only because I've been doing so much other stuff that whenever I got ANY free time, I just didn't feel like doing anything. So I didn't. But I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and boyyy does it feel good! I forgot how much I like blogging! There's just something about creating a post, uploading those pics and writing about whatever you want! I miss it dearly. So here I am! And I'm starting off with this little diddy I made a couple weeks back.

IMG_9994 copy
I have done a Stamp Tutorial before but it's been a while so I thought I'd take a few (or a lot!) pictures to kind of show you the process, in case you missed out. For this particular project, I made a stamp that says, "goodies" on it to make goodie bags to send to my customers along with their purchase! And here's how I did it:

IMG_9950

IMG_9955
Start out by drawing a picture of what you'd liked (or you could print something out?)

IMG_9963
And then, with a regular pencil, go over it to make it realll thick.

IMG_9965
Now, get your linoleum (or an eraser) and press it firmly down on your picture (or in this case, your word). Make sure that it all fits!

IMG_9964
And if necessary, make the lines a little more visible and correct any messed up letters.

Now comes the fun part! Get out your linoleum cutter and start scraping away!

IMG_9972
Start out with a larger attachment and cut away the edges and any large chunks that need to go. Then change to a smaller attachment for the detailing.

And here's an example of one of the goodie bags!

I wanted an eco-friendly goodie bag solution and this is what I came up with. Basically, I made my own envelope template, used that to cut out a bunch of "envelopes" from an old textbook and assembled them. Then I got a heart puncher thing and cut hearts from some paper scraps (in this case a pad of paper that I was done with). Glued those on, stamped it with "goodies" and voila! Goodie bag! I put a care sheet, business cards, and other freebies that are going on at the time (recently my star hair clips).

Feature!

Hey guys, today was a busy day! I don't have time to do a full post but wanted to share some awesome news. I sent a skirt over to the lovely lady at Delightfully Tacky and today she wore it in an outfit post on her blog! So you should definitely check it out: http://www.delightfully-tacky.com/2011/11/blue-suede-skirt.html. This skirt actually belonged to my mother and was one of the few things of hers that I put in my store! I've been reading Elizabeth's blog for a really long time, I think she may have been one of the first blogs I started following. So it's exciting to see her style one of my skirts... woopee! Anyways, how's your week goin? Two more days till the weekend, we can do it!

Girlish Garb: Chaos

Girlish Garb

This is another outfit I wore to work. I try to make it a habit to get a little dressed up, makes it more fun ya know?! So instead of just the usual backdrop, I thought I would give you a little peak into the chaos that is my studio. You can see my "necklace" collection there behind me. Oh, and those clothes on the floor? They are patiently waiting in a nice big pile for info taking and hanging up. This was right after a shoot, I take pictures of everything and then kind of make a big pile until I can get around to taking inventory and hanging them in my closet with the rest of the store

This kind of sums up my day. A big ol' mess. Tuesdays are for school. So Eliza and I woke up early and the first thing out of her mouth (before she even opens her eyes!) was "I don't want to go to school". Uh oh. I drop her off at mother's day out, screaming and crying my name. I don't really know what's gotten into her, she hasn't been like this since the first couple of weeks she started going. Her teacher eventually called me to let me know she was fine after a few minutes but apparently she refused to go to "music" so she hung out with one of the teachers. I don't even know. So then, I find out I have all this homework due before, during, and after thanksgiving. Great, so much for a holiday. And I've been trying to step it up for black Friday/cyber Monday so that's a load. My morning was pretty overwhelming to say the least but I took myself to Starbucks for a Pumpkin spice latte and got to work! It felt good to get a lot done, and I did get a lot done. I'm just going to try to stay positive and just power through it! However, I've learned that I do really good on a work/reward program. I have to set specific goals and then let myself take a break/reward myself before going back to work. That way, I don't get too burnt out but don't get too carried away with procrastinating either. So that's where I'm at. Busy, just the way I like it, right? How has your week been? Is it just me or are things getting crazy all the sudden?
