Latest Thrifty Finds

One of my favorite thrift stores around me is expanding! And even better, they made everything 50% off! So I had to splurge a little and found some pretty fun things.

I've been looking at toy camera's like the Holga and Diana and then I found this little guy and bought him for $2. I have no idea if it works or not but I'm willing to give it a try! I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

I really hate this color green but I think it has potential. I'm going to give it a couple coats of white paint and it will be just like new!

I've been kind of obsessed with plates lately and just couldn't help myself. They're pretty!

So I decided to make some plate stands and bought a few candlestick holders to make them.

These two purses are now in the store: black, gold.

I just thought this was cute...

I'm not sure what about this necklace I like because things like this usually aren't my style but all the different but  pretty beads kind of caught my eye. I love thrifting. I may have a problem...

I'm reallly excited to get this week going! I'm feeling very inspired and ready to work. Which is awesome.

Studio Makeover Project

I've been trying to makeover my studio and make it look like a room more than just a bunch of piles of junk! Here are a couple things I've done.

I had these dark, drab curtains hanging behind my desk and they did absolutely nothing for the room. So I dug up some cute fabric that had enough length and made some new ones.

Ahh, soo much better. Excuse the mess on my desk please (:

Next I reupholstered the chair that I use.

Pretty ugly, huh?

First, I unscrewed the cusion.

Then, I pryed out all the staples holding the fabric to the cushion.

I measured a new piece of fabric using the one that was already on the seat. Then I stapled that sucker on and screwed the cushion back in place.

A little more modern, a lot less gross.

The fabric is really cute, it's waterproof with a floral print. I'll have to take some detail shots so you guys can see! I'll share some more later!

Simple Towel Makeover

I found these fun dish towels at Kroger the other day for $1 each!

I really liked the blue so, I bought three. I gave this one a mini makeover so that I could hang it on my stove and it would stay put! I got the idea from here: source.  (Mine's kind of a condensed version)

So here's what I did:

First, I measured how much I wanted on the backside (about 6")

Then I marked about an inch from the bottom of the short end (mark the top and bottom piece on the right and left edges).

And sewed gathers into it, to do this,

I just started sewing on one side and kept pushing the fabric under the presser foot to make it gather and sew over it. And just do that all the way across from one pin to the next. Repeat to the top and bottom parts.

Then I cut 4, 7.5" pieces of ribbon.

And sew them where the gathering meets the edge (with the right side facing the same direction as the right side of the fabric). Repeat with all 4 ribbon pieces.

And done!

I loove the way this came out and might make a couple more!

It's perfect for Eliza too, right at her level! I'm so glad it's Friday, I'm so ready for the weekend. Although I have to work this weekend, it's nice that Brandon is off. Hopefully we'll get some beach time in! Have a great Friday everyone!

Experimenting with Film

In case you didn't notice, I redid my banner! I also died my hair red last night and will be sharing pictures shortly (:

So anyways, back to the post. A friend came to visit us a couple days ago and was taking pictures with a film camera the whole time. It really made me want to use one so I dug up my old 35mm camera from when I was taking a photography class, bought some film, and started shooting away. It's fun because you don't know what you're going to get and then you get really excited about developing them! I just get them done at Walgreens and it is kind of a bummer when I have lines going through some but oh well. It's not really that big of a deal, they're just for fun! Here are some of the ones that came out good.

I didn't go anywhere exciting, just anything I could find around the house that was mildly interesting. AKA Eliza.

Today, I discovered photoshop actions! At first, it was very frustrating because I had NO idea what I was doing but once I figured out how to download them, it was on! I'm soo excited to get to use all of my newly aqcuired actions from an awesome blog that offers a huge selection of actions for free! Here's the link, you should seriously try it out! CoffeeShop Blog: Actions

Here's an outfit I wore a couple days ago, and some photoshop actions to go along with it!

For these, I used the Attic Vintage action without a texture layer. Loooove.

Oh, and about the title. Eliza called me a "little face" today... not sure what that means but I thought it was cute! Happy Wednesday everyone!

DIY Hanging Light

I've had this lamp shade frame laying around for a while and finally dived in and made it into a light. Before I begin, I just want to say that I am no electrician! This is just what I did, I don't necessarily recommend it for you guys. Do some research! Here is a source I used to put this thing together: source.

Materials:
Lamp shade
Ceiling Hook
Light kit
Screwdriver
Chain, cut to the length of your choice

First, you take this little bolt thing and screw the white thing on it. I don't know the names for these so just bear with me!

And then I attatched the two above parts to the lamp shade and secured it on top with the washer looking piece.

And then I pulled my wires through and tie the knot from the video.

Next, I attatched the wires to the screws on the big piece.

Then I slipped the cover back on and secured it all together.

Hang it, put a light in, and you are ready to go!

So there you have it, you can make a lamp out of pretty much anything. I actually planned on doing this with a bowl and then I found the lamp shade.

Best Sunday Ever!

So my Sunday was pretty awesome. We had breakfast in bed and a date night! Here are some pictures I took with my phone and edited with a photography app called Little Photo that's pretty much amazing (and did I mention it's free?).

Breakfast of champions, right? Cheesy scrambled eggs, bacon, and avocado. And I believe this is the first time I got to use my new awesome plates, hurray!

Someone got into some cherries and made a mess all over her face... By the way, I noticed I always post pictures of her with no clothes on and thought I should explain. When we are home (which is when I usually take pictures of her), she is always running around naked because she either made a huge mess and her clothes are no longer wearable or she just decides to rip them off because she thinks it's funny. And who am I to interrupt her fun, right? Might as well let her run around naked while she can get away with it!

We went on a dinner and a movie date and saw Hangover 2 which was freakin' hilarious! I seriously haven't laughed so hard in a while and it was mighty nice.

This isn't the greatest picture but whatever. So this dress actually came from my mother, she wore it when she was my age (isn't that crazy?). It's one of my favorite dresses and I'll never get rid of it. It's funny because for a long time it was just sitting in my closet (like years) because I didn't quite know how to wear it. But now that I've gotten into vintage clothing, it's perfect!

Dress: My mothers
Necklace: Forever 21
Shoes: Probably from Target?

I didn't have my camera handy which is why I had to use my phone but I'll definitely get better pictures of this dress someday soon. Maybe our next date night, eh?
