Kentucky: Part 1

Last month, we took a trip to Kentucky, somewhere I had never been, to finally meet all of Brandon's family that I had never seen. It was such a good trip and surprisingly beautiful. I didn't have a ton of preconceived ideas of what Kentucky would be like but I was definitely taken aback by it's quaint charm and natural beauty. Also, a cold front had just come in when we got there and the weather was in the 70's which was amaaaaaaazing! We actually had to go out and by warmer clothes! But more on that later.

So we left on a Saturday, right after my sister's baby shower. We drove all through the night and arrived at about 11 in the morning. We spent our first few days in Bowling Green, Kentucky where Brandon's uncle lives.

The first day, we were completely exhausted from the drive and spent most of the day laying in bed, watching Youtube videos, reading, and doing homework (well Brandon was).
His family was really supportive of our diet (raw till 4/vegan) and we had a plethora of good food to eat. We actually brought our own blender and food processor to make our own smoothies and food the whole trip! There's nothing like having a vacation and staying healthy too. It was fantastic.
Raw Cauliflower Couscous: chopped (in the food processor) cauliflower, onion, garlic, and spinach with lime juice, tomatoes, and kalamata olives! Yum
One of the main events here, was our homemade slip n' slide! So it started out as this little dingy thing....

But the boys weren't satisfied enough for that. So Brandon's uncle had bought a few tarps that they laid on this hill to create a whopping 70 foot slip n' slide! Complete with dish soap and sprinklers.
Holy cow, was it fun! I think the adults had just as much fun as the kids did!

That night we had a celebration for all the girls whom had had birthdays all around the same time.

They all got matching minnie mouse ears and fairy wands.

I managed to sneak in a really nice bike ride to keep up with my training while we there and it was perfect! Afterwards, we went to do some shopping and got ourselves some close-toed shoes and sweaters to keep warm! We fully expected 90-100 degree weather so we weren't prepared for the 50-70 degree weather that surprised us when we arrived! And then, after 2... or 3 (?) days of Bowling Green, (I can't remember exactly now), we were off to the next house/family to visit!
Those Kentucky sunsets ya'll. Gorgeous.
